Victorian Pioneers
Edward is not your every day school teacher, he is obsessed with the study of philosophy (that's science to you and me)!
Fortunately for Edward the 19th century is an age of immense scientific discovery and technological inovation meaning that there is lots for him to read about and play with at home. This era of discovery means that the very world that we live in is changing rapidly as science begins to impact every aspect of our lives.
Ask him a simple question though, and you may find yourself inside an experiment where he enthusiastically demonstrates to you the very answer to that question.
These changes are also having a huge impact on social ettiquete and practices.
Alice is of an ascending class, and so is very well aware of the social do's and dont's of Victorian society. She will be very happy to help you to stay in favour and loves nothing more than a cup of tea, especially if there are some parlour games involved!
The Shows
As well as visitor engagement and games, as part of our Victorian event days we provide several 30 minute shows throughout each day. Each show covers something different about social history, technology and innovation in the time of the Victorians and is designed to get the audience involved and feel like they are part of the story.
Some of the shows might include:
Tell a biologist how perfect the human eye is, and they may start listing reasons why the human eye is flawed. It is these flaws however, that make optical illusions work, and the Victorians loved illusions. So much so they created toys that tricked the eye into seeing something that wasn’t real. See some of the toys that delighted eyes, hearts and minds during the reign of Victoria, and find out how they work.
People have always loved playing games with each other, and the Victorians are no exception. You might think that the typical Victorian is rather stern or stoic, but, as well as every other aspect of their lives, Victorians are at the forefront of developing new ways of play (and that’s just the adults)! New games are constantly being created solely for the purpose of playing with others at the all-important social gatherings that you are invited to attend! Learn & play Victorian parlour games.
Victoria’s Rule is an age where Britain, not only has control and trading links with other countries all over the world; but is also experiencing a rapid development in technology and innovation. Social rules, rights and even eating habits are also changing. Behind closed doors in Victoria’s palace a new trend is about to begin, one that will quickly sweep through the nation. Discover the story behind Britain’s “Afternoon Tea”.

The Games
For many visitors it is the games that we provide that are the highlight. Our games are all Victorian games that transport players back in time. We fill our Games Arena with many different games, that are relevant to the period, that visitors can play at their leisure and return as much as they want.
Our Games Arena gives visitors something to enjoy from the moment the gates open to the end of the day. Some games are simple, others have more intricate rules, and this spread means that there is something for all.
